Cigarettes, a nasty habit, but one that I have enjoyed for a very long time now. But now it’s time to quit, because a pack and half to two packs a day is just insane. So I have been trying to cut down, so far it’s going good, I have smoked under a pack for the last 5 or 6 days now, but it’s starting to get hard.
I have tried all the different helps, such as the patch and lounges, even Chantix, with no results in the past. So this time I am slowly reducing my amount each day and heading towards a quit day. I found an app for my iPhone to help me keep track of the amount I smoke each day and a plan to follow and so far it seems to be working. I’m down to 14 cigarettes a day, (it’s getting really frustrating, but continue on I will), which is a pack less a day then when I started so I am starting to see some reward in this, I just hope that I can do it this time.
I have been trying to stay busy to keep myself distracted, but you can only clean so much. Shopping is a great for distracting me but seems to help only if you’ve got money to spend and unfortunately I can’t afford to go shopping every time I have a craving. Eating helps, as long as I have food in my mouth I’m not thinking of a cigarette , but I do not want to gain back the weight I was able to lose, and when I get done eating then the cravings are really high and when I want a cigarette the most. If you’ve got any tips for me please feel free to leave a comment, I would really appreciate the help with this.

My only suggestion is to plan a complete escape from ALL of your routines…a holiday. After 40+ years I finally quit when I had a trip to Texas for a week, none of my ‘usual’ times and places to smoke, and no one around who smoked. I still had cravings when I came back, but having survived a week without cigs I knew I could do it. I’m now 5 months smoke-free.
